The enclosed startup screen picture was taken by Mr. DK Kollor of Sioux Falls, SD for The Vanguard Squadron, also of SFSD, at the annual EAA Oshkosh Airshow. Our group always had great time every year that we have been there (which by the way is a lot of years). Enough of this.
This StartupScreen was made on a MAC with a 14" screen. You may want to open it in Adobe Photoshop and increase or decrease its size depending on the size of the screen that you are using. If you are interested in using this StartupScreen remove your existing one (if you have one) from your startup folder and put this one in there and resart your MAC, THAT' IT.
Isn't That Easy !!!!!
About Ethanol and The Vanguard Squadron
The “Ethanol Powered Vanguard Squadron” flies airplanes powered exclusively by fuel from the corn belt of America. These are experimental aircraft that were built and are flown by South Dakotans, and designated as RV-3A's by the airplane designer.
All squadron aircraft are equipped with Lycoming IO-320 engines ranging from the standard 150 HP to three modified to 180 HP. The modified/upgraded engines boast a 10 to 1 compression ratio.
The actual changes required to burn ethanol are not complex and could be easily incorporated when building an aircraft. As the federal government increases fuel regulations, ethanol looks even better as an alternative fuel. In fact, estimates show mile for mile ethanol costs less than 100 LL. In addition, ethanol lessens our dependence on foreign oil.
The Squadron began it's ethanol powered program in January 1993 and has operated on ethanol ever since. The pilots have flown numerous precision formation/aerobatic demonstrations across the country and have spoken to pilots and public alike about the qualities of ethanol fuel. In the 1993 and 1994 seasons, the “ETHANOL POWERED VANGUARD SQUADRON” flew at the world's largest aviation event held annually at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Pilots who have flown the converted aircraft agree that there is a noticeable increase in power output and that the engines are running cooler and cleaner. The Squadron has not experienced any problems with ethanol fuels and looks forward to it's continued success in the future.

Ethanol — A Natural Alternative
Ethanol is America's only domestically produced, clean burning renewable fuel. It is distilled primarily from corn, has a high octane rating and burns cooler than other fuels.
The production of ethanol provides jobs for thousands of Americans, contributes to cleaner air, lessens our dependence on foreign oil, decreases the federal budget and foreign trade deficits, and helps America's farmers.
This renewable fuel has opened new markets for America's corn. Since the development and promotion of ethanol fuels, U.S. corn producers have helped create a market for more than 450 million bushels of corn each year — just for ethanol. In 1994, approximately 1.3 billion gallons of ethanol were produced in the U.S. In 1995, South Dakota alone will produce nearly 11 million gallons of ethanol.
More than 100 cities in the U.S. suffer from unhealthy levels of carbon monoxide and low level ozone or smog. These pollutants cost Americans billions of dollars annually in increased health care associated with respiratory illness and heart disease. Ethanol blends reduce these harmful pollutants in our cities. As an aviation fuel, it can assure the future of general aviation's fuel supply while benefiting our domestic economy. Ethanol — fuel for clean air.
